Countdown To Junior Eurovision 2020: Poland

Songwriters: Andrzej Gromala, Sara Chmiel-Gromala

The Kirkham Report is proud to bring you the  Countdown To Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020! It’s my first year of covering the JESC, and all through November, I’m bringing you all the info on each song this year, and some background info on the song, artist, songwriters, and such.  Once all 12 songs have been announced and spotlighted (one more is being announced later this week; intended 13th participant Armenia withdrew from the contest on November 5), I will announce my choices ranked in order of my personal preference. At that time, I’ll give the reasons for my personal rankings; normally I do this during the countdown, but due to COVID-19, the songs are being picked late in some cases, so it’s not possible to do that. Again, these are MY opinions, and I realize that the ESC fan community is a rabid one, and rarely everyone agrees with everyone else, so as they say, your mileage may vary. Each song and the day it will be spotlighted was chosen at random using an online wheel spinner to determine what order they would be presented in.

Up today is the official entry from Poland, I’ll Be Standing by Ala Tracz. It is performed in Polish and English. 10-year-old Ala has been singing most of her life, and recently appeared on Poland’s “The Voice Kids” franchise, where she made the final nine. Her first single, a duet with her sister, was released this past May.

Poland is making their seventh appearance in the JESC this year, and they are also hosting the show. The country became the first in JESC to win back to back Grand Championships the past two years, taking the crown in 2018 with “Anyone I Want To Be” by Roksana Wegial and in 2019 with “Superhero” by Viki Gabor. They are aiming for a trifecta this year, and if they can pull it off, they will be the first JESC participants to do so,  pulling alongside Ireland in the adult ESC, who pulled off the trifecta in 1993, 1994, and 1995, the only country in either contest to do it thus far.
