PASSAGES: Film composer Johnny Mandel, 1925-2020

If you’ve listened to popular big bands, saw movies in the 1960s and 1970s, or have ever been anywhere near a television set, chances are good that you’ve heard at least one song by Johnny Mandel, the Oscar and Grammy winning composer and songwriter, who passed away at the age of 94 on Monday. Mandel worked with jazz and swing artists throughout his career, and was known for his affiliations with Count Basie,  Frank Sinatra, and Peggy Lee among others. PASSAGES: Pete Carr, 1950-2020

Pete Carr was not a household name for most people, but when it came to session musicians, Carr, who passed away yesterday at the age of 70, was a legend. Carr is probably best known to lovers of late 1970’s music as one half of the duo LeBlanc and Carr; he had teamed up with singer/songwriter Lenny LeBlanc for an album on Big Tree Records, and had a #13 Hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #11 on the Adult Contemporary chart with the ballad “Falling” in late 1977. But his career spanned over five decades and much of it was

TKR’s full reboot happens July 1 – here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming

On July 1, The Kirkham Report takes the next step into our future, with a completely rebooted site. “CHART”-ING A COURSE FOR THE FUTURE II

Man I love bad puns, don’t I? Heh heh… Over the past week, since I made the decision to incorporated our “Planet BiblioMusica” blog here on TKR, I’ve been thinking about some stuff, and some ideas for some future columns and projects I wanted to do, and how I can make TKR a “must-see” site for music fans like myself. Stuff I would want to look at if I were a fan of music. So in addition to the original bad-pun-titled column from about 18 months ago, this is what I am thinking about… Reintroducing the “Song Of The Day”

TKR welcomes “Planet BiblioMusica” to our fold!

Hi all – it’s been three weeks since Eurovision 2020 finished, and we’ve been doing some reassessing and reevaluating… When my wife Kim and I started our PNRNetworks sister site Planet BiblioMusica, we had wanted to make it about our personal experiences with book stores and record stores and all the time we spent in them. And also our take on books and music in general. Unfortunately, real life got in the way, and we haven’t been able to do as much here as we would have liked. So we were talking and we came up with a solution, and
