PREVIEW: The TKR Holiday Series – “Jingle Bell Jams” and “Christmas Countdown”

It’s almost that time of year again…in fact, it’s already here in some radio markets – Christmas music is about to take over (or already has). But have you ever noticed one incredible fact? All of these “Holiday” stations play the same OLD songs over and over again. And the biggest problem is that they almost NEVER make a NEW Christmas standard. There are TONS of great songs released every year, and if they’re EXTREMELY lucky or are by a current superstar on the charts, they MIGHT get airplay once in a while for a year or two. But unfortunately,

They’re BAAAAACCCCKKKKK! Check out the trailer from the all-new “Animaniacs”!

“Boingy Boingy Boingy!” When it was first announced about two years ago that Steven Spielberg was mounting a revival of the cult-hit animated series “Animaniacs“, Kim and I were happy…but concerned. You see, the original series, which ran from 1993-1998, was a favorite, not just of ours, but of all our friends. We have a friend who regularly invokes the voice and expressions of Pinky, and she’s HELLA GOOD at it. We met Jess Harnell at a signing at our local Warner Brothers store in Peabody – that is, back when they still had WB stores, they’re long defunct now.

TKR On YouTube: Come Check Out “Coffee And Vinyl”

Since joining up with the YouTube vinyl community, I have become hooked on, and a regular participant in, a great show that airs every morning at around 8:30 AM Eastern. It’s called “Coffee And Vinyl” and is broadcast every morning from Record Krate, a mom-and-pop record store in Raleigh NC (with stores also in Wake Forest and Selma). Hosted by store owner Adam Kirk, there’s a crazy group of regulars who chat, watch Adam (and frequently, other members of the VC as guests) talk about music. I made this promo for him, and it shows the kind of nutty stuff

Unlike ESC, however, rather than pitting country against country, the American Song Contest will pit state vs state;

If you’ve listened to popular big bands, saw movies in the 1960s and 1970s, or have ever been anywhere near a television set, chances are good that you’ve heard at least one song by Johnny Mandel, the Oscar and Grammy winning composer and songwriter, who passed away at the age of 94 on Monday. PASSAGES: Benny Mardones, 1946-2020, two-time “One Hit wonder”

He will forever be known as a one-hit wonder….twice. With the SAME SONG. Singer/songwriter Benny Mardones passed away today after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease; he was 73 years old. Although he recorded his share of music over the years, and also wrote songs for other artists including Brenda Lee and Chubby Checker, he is perhaps best known as one of the few acts to hit the Billboard Hot 100 twice with the same song. Released in 1980, his hit “Into The Night” remains an early 80’s classic and is fondly remembered by fans, and it hit #11 on
