Eurovision ’21 – Dadi Freyr says Gagnamagnid likely out of live competition due to positive COVID test

Iceland’s Dadi Freyr tweeted the following message to his fans this morning:

and the follow up tweet:

This is a heartbreaking blow to the fans of Freyr, who was the oddsmakers’ favorite to win the cancelled 2020 contest and one of the favorites in the 2021 contest as well. Hopefully, using one of their live-to-tape performances shot during the rehearsals will not deter their fans from voting for them to get through the second semi-finals on Thursday.

Someone on Iceland’s team – NOT a member of the band – tested positive for COVID late last week and as a result, Dadi and the band went into quarantine over the weekend following their second rehearsal last Friday.  Since then, Dadi and wife Arny have been entertaining their legions of fans with numerous Twitter posts, including a hilarious Q&A sequence this past Monday.

It was also announced that the couple is expecting their second child on the band’s episode of “LookLab” with Nikkie de Jager, which is available on the Eurovision YouTube channel and at the official website at http://eurovision.tv.

We wish a hearty get well to whomever is sick, and hope they have a speedy recovery!
